Internship FAQs

  1. What is an Intern?
    An Intern is defined as a college student majoring in a qualified field of study which could lead to full-time regular employment with Alion upon graduation.
  2. How do I apply for an Intern job opening?
    To apply for an Intern position, please visit the Internships for Undergraduates page. Search for Jobs here. From there, you can search for job openings based on the position, title, position number, keywords or location. To quickly locate intern job openings, you may conduct a keyword search using the word “Intern.” Once the list of intern job openings is viewable, select the intern position which fits your academic background and interest and submit your resume to the specific job opening.   3. How long should my resume be and what should it include?
    Your resume should be no longer than two pages and should include your contact information, education, work experience, technical skills, and extracurricular activities.
  4. Who do I contact if I am having difficulty submitting my resume?
    If you are experiencing technical difficulty submitting your resume, please send an email message to  Patrice Galloway at pgalloway@alionscience.com or call 703.933.6606.
  5. What happens after I submit my resume?
    Once you have submitted your resume online, you will receive an email acknowledgement notifying you that your resume was successfully submitted. Your qualifications will then be compared to the requirements associated with the position. If your resume reflects that your knowledge, skills and abilities are associated with that position, you will be contacted by an Alion Recruiter or HR Representation on the hiring team. Additionally, your resume will be added to our Alion database so that we may consider you for future job openings.
  6. What are your standard internship dates?
    We offer summer internships generally beginning during the mid-May and end-of August timeframe.
  7. Does Alion hire freshmen as interns?
    Yes, we hire students at various levels: Rising to Freshman; Rising to Sophomore; Rising to Junior; and Rising to Senior level students.
  8. Does Alion hire high school students for intern job openings?
    High school students are hired as “Seasonal Helpers” and may work during the summer months and holiday breaks. Seasonal helpers are paid at a lesser hourly rate than interns.
  9. Are your intern positions paid?
    Yes, all intern and seasonal helpers are paid positions. Compensation will depend on the position and determined by the field of study specified in the Alion job description.
  10. Will an internship with Alion guarantee a full-time position when I graduate?
    No, but we have a good rate of hiring interns or former interns into the company. Upon graduation, you will have the opportunity to apply for any job opening listed on Alion’s Careers website to be considered for a full-time position.
