Secure Measures for Classified Information
Before clearing a U.S. Coast Guard ship for service, classified information processing systems are examined closely to identify and correct any compromising emissions. The DoD’s TEMPEST standard serves as the benchmark that must be met.
Since 2007, the Coast Guard has relied on Alion for TEMPEST subject matter expertise. Most recently, as part of an ISHPI Information Technologies, Inc. team, Alion evaluated the Coast Guard’s first-in-class Fast Response Cutter, USCGC Webber. Alion conducted visual inspections, generated classified test plans and reports written to National Security Agency (NSA) specifications and conducted a ten-day shipboard test that resulted in NSA certification and accreditation.
Alion’s efforts in ensuring these standards are met is an essential step in keeping classified data from being compromised and potentially putting missions – and lives – at risk.
